F.A.Q.
Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I service my industrial generator?
We recommend servicing your generator at least twice a year, typically every 3 months, under normal operating conditions. Critical standby units or generators in harsh environments may require quarterly service. Regular preventive maintenance includes changing the oil and filters, inspecting plugs and belts, testing the battery, and running the generator under load. In addition to these services, it’s wise to exercise the generator (run it with a load) monthly, or weekly for critical systems, to keep the engine and alternator in good shape
Following this schedule will greatly improve reliability and ensure your generator is ready to perform when an outage strikes.

Can you help with emergency generator repairs?
Yes – we offer 24/7 emergency repair services. We know that generator failures don’t always happen 9–5, and downtime can be very costly. Our technicians are on-call around the clock and can be dispatched quickly to your site in an emergency. We’ll troubleshoot the issue, work to get the generator running immediately (even if via a temporary fix), and then provide a full repair solution. Our goal is to minimize your downtime in any way possible. We also keep rental generators available as a stop-gap measure if a repair requires significant time – either way, we’ve got you covered in an emergency.

Do you provide generator rental services during maintenance?
We service all major commercial/industrial generator brands. This includes diesel and natural gas generators from manufacturers such as Caterpillar, Cummins, Generac, Kohler, MTU, Detroit Diesel, Katolight, and many others. Our team’s multi-brand expertise means you don’t need separate service providers for different gensets in your fleet – we can maintain and repair them all. We also handle the associated equipment like transfer switches (ASCO, Thomson, Zenith, etc.) and control systems. Chances are if it produces power, we have experience with it!

Do you provide generator rental services during maintenance?
Absolutely. We maintain a fleet of portable rental generators that can be delivered to your site to supply power during scheduled maintenance or extended repairs
If your primary generator needs to be taken offline for a major service or overhaul, we’ll arrange a temporary generator to keep your facility powered with minimal interruption. Rental units are available in a range of sizes to suit your load. This ensures you have continuous power even when your main generator is out of service. Just let us know you’ll need a backup, and we’ll include a rental setup as part of the maintenance plan.

Can Generator Source handle large-scale industrial generator installations?
Yes – we have extensive experience with large-scale installations and complex power projects. Our team has handled projects up to and beyond 20 MW in capacity, involving multiple large generators in parallel. We provide end-to-end project management for these jobs: engineering design, logistical planning (including heavy equipment transport and cranes), on-site installation, and final commissioning. We also have the technical expertise to implement advanced controls for synchronizing multiple generators, and we’ve worked on systems for hospitals, data centers, manufacturing plants, and utility peaking sites. If you have a big power project, we have the know-how and resources to execute it successfully from start to finish.
