Case Study: Coordinating Multi-Unit, Megawatt-Scale Backup Power for an Industrial Manufacturing Operation

Industry: Industrial Manufacturing
Location: Texas
Generators Supplied: Multiple Kohler Industrial Diesel Generators
Capacity Range: 1500kW–1600kW
Fuel Type: Diesel
Voltage: 277/480V
Housing: Sound-attenuated enclosures
Application: Large-scale backup power for industrial operations
Outcome: Delivered high-capacity generator solutions aligned with operational and logistical requirements

The Challenge

An industrial manufacturing operation required a large-scale backup power solution capable of supporting demanding electrical loads across critical systems. The project involved sourcing and coordinating multiple high-capacity generators while maintaining consistency across specifications.

Key considerations included ensuring compatibility across voltage and fuel type, managing the logistics associated with transporting large industrial equipment, and aligning the generator selection with long-term serviceability and operational expectations.

This was not a single-unit purchase, but a coordinated power solution designed to support complex industrial infrastructure.

Why It Mattered

In industrial manufacturing environments, power continuity is essential. Unplanned outages can disrupt production, affect safety systems, and create downstream impacts across operations.

For this project, it was critical that the generator solution provided sufficient capacity, integrated cleanly into existing infrastructure, and arrived ready for deployment without introducing additional risk or delays.

Consistency across equipment platforms and configurations played a key role in reducing complexity for installation, operation, and future service.

The Generator Source Solution

Generator Source worked with the customer to identify and supply multiple industrial diesel generators configured to meet the project’s technical and operational requirements.

The selected units featured megawatt-class capacity, diesel fuel systems suitable for industrial standby applications, 277/480V output for commercial and industrial compatibility, and sound-attenuated enclosures to support on-site operating conditions.

In addition to equipment selection, Generator Source coordinated shop preparation and freight planning to ensure the generators were ready for delivery and deployment.

Execution and Coordination

Because of the scale of the equipment involved, execution required careful planning and clear communication.

Generator specifications were aligned across all units to ensure consistency. Equipment condition and documentation were reviewed prior to shipment. Freight logistics were coordinated to support safe transport of large industrial generators.

This structured approach helped reduce uncertainty and streamline the delivery process.

Results

The customer successfully secured multiple high-capacity industrial generators capable of supporting critical manufacturing operations.

The outcome delivered scalable backup power capacity, consistency across generator platforms, and confidence in equipment readiness and long-term support.

The project demonstrated the importance of pairing experienced coordination with proven industrial equipment.

Ongoing Considerations

For large generator systems, Generator Source recommends routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and periodic testing based on operational usage and environmental conditions.

These steps help protect uptime, reliability, and long-term system performance.
