Phased Delivery of Kohler 2000kW Units Against a Short Deadline

The requirement
The client operates an integrated infrastructure stack: owned power generation and substation access, high-density AI-ready data center capacity built on those power assets, and a GPU compute platform on top. For this project it needed roughly 18 megawatts of generation, configured as a single paralleled plant built from 2000kW or larger units. Delivery could be phased, with the last units on site by October. New equipment was preferred.
At nine units, the request exceeded what any dealer holds in matched 2MW inventory at a given moment. The project therefore came down to two questions: how much of the plant could be supplied from existing stock inside the window, and how the balance would be sourced without a factory lead time.
The solution
Four new matched units inside the window. Generator Source had two new Kohler 2000kW sets in stock at the time of the request, enclosed with integral fuel tanks, with two more identical units already on order and arriving in July. That placed four factory-new matched machines within the client’s schedule with no new manufacturer lead time.
A fifth unit from matched used inventory. Because the plant would be paralleled, additional units had to match the new sets on manufacturer, rating, and engine platform. Generator Source identified a used Kohler 2000kW in inventory with approximately 30 hours, on the same engine family as the new units, making it a candidate for the same paralleled bus. That brought the available matched capacity to 10MW, with three units remaining to source.
Verification before commitment. Specification sheets on the in-stock units and the used set were issued the same day so the client’s team could confirm fit against the site before the remaining units were pursued. Locking the available equipment first keeps the sourcing effort for the balance from delaying the portion of the plant that can be delivered now.
Outcome
The first Kohler 2000kW was delivered at $900,000. Sourcing of the remaining units for the paralleled plant is in progress.
Why it matters
Above a megawatt, matched sets are the constraint, not capacity. A paralleled plant of this size is assembled from what physically exists on a schedule, and the value Generator Source brings is knowing, on the first call, how many of the required units are in stock, how many are inbound, and which used units in inventory are a genuine match for the new ones. Phasing delivery against known equipment is what makes an October date achievable at 18MW.
That the client is itself a power infrastructure owner is the point. A company that generates its own electricity and builds data centers on that advantage still came to Generator Source for the matched 2MW units, because owning generation does not put nine paralleled Kohlers on a site by October.
